It's estimated that  2  people attended.

And so we grow before a single screening! Thanks to everyone so far for joining this meetup group! Even if we only get a few people for this initial meeting, I think it is time to talk about the how, which MST3K episodes for the first screening and of course, when and where....

Please join me Saturday, the 8th of September at a location to be determined shortly (Pub, Coffee House, Ex military site) to get the ball rolling and throw out ideas of how to make this a great group and have a great screening here in Chicago! Please rsvp with a location idea for this initial meetup and I will announce the where within the next few days. I am off the yellow line in skokie, which actually does not run on Saturday, but does have bus service to Howard (red line). There is a Starbucks next door to the yellow line which would be a good place (for those who are not anti "the big guy coffee house") to meet for the first time. I can also hop the aforementioned bus to the red line and get pretty much anywhere in the city but am not as familiar with possible locations so throw them out there!!! I am putting the initial location as that Starbucks, BUT I AM HAPPY TO CHANGE IT TO WHATEVER IS MOST CENTRAL!!!!! (At least when I get some suggestions.) Remember, this is to chat about everything, not the actual first official meetup/screening.....

As far as the time, I was thinking around 3 pm to give folks time to eat lunch, yet not be too late in case there are those that have plans for that evening.

Topic ideas:

Where to have the first screening: I have an lcd projector and DVD player that can be shot, pretty big actually, on any light colored wall or screen so if there are enough people for the first screening, perhaps a pub with a separate room we could use or even a meeting hall somewhere. When we get more familiar, I would even be willing to have screenings at my place.....

Episodes to screen: My first gut reaction is to see who has the earliest episodes and every meeting show them in order, but we could do a vote for your favorite or have a theme to the evening or even the MST3K movie.....

What to Serve? I personally have no problem with keeping it over 21 to be able to have alcohol if we do have it in a pub, but if we have it in a hall or something similiar, then we could bring the age limit down. Also, where is the shrimp???

How often: There I have no clue, but I think the more often we do this, the more members we might be able to have join. Every month? 2 months?

How much: I have no problem footing the bill for meetup.com, at least to see where this goes, but when it comes down to it, we should talk about how much an event would be and simply split the cost. TOTALLY NON PROFIT!!! I cannot imagine it will be much or anything at all if we use somewhere that serves food and or drinks. Hell, we would be giving them money anyway......

Any other items: Let me know if I am missing anything like where else to post this meetup group to generate even more interest or rifftraks (sp?) or whatever you think we should chat about...

I really hope to have alot of people join us not only for this first discussion, but also for all the screenings we have in the future!

I only had one couple show up, but considering it was just an initial meeting, it was better than nobody.
