It's been many months since the last Meetup, but due to major construction at the loft, the delay was unavoidable. And when I say "major construction," I mean that we had no walls or doors.

Well, the place is still a mess, with cables dangling from the ceiling and giant slabs of metal littering the floor, but the projector and speakers are set up, and that's all we require!

To understand how a movie like "Hobgoblins" could possibly come to exist, it's necessary to take a little trip back to 1987, the year that "Gremlins" came out. Suddenly horror-comedies starring vicious little creatures were all the rage, and a rip-off called "Critters" soon followed. "Critters" didn't make nearly as much money as "Gremlins," but that didn't stop the producers of "Ghoulies," a cut-rate "Gremlins" rip-off featuring creatures coming out of a toilet. Not long after, "Gremlins" rip-off "Munchies" was filmed, on an even lower budget.

The parade of increasingly cheap "Gremlins" rip-offs continued for a while (don't get me started on "Kamillions" and "Beasties"), culminating in "Hobgoblins": one of the cheapest, most aggressively stupid films ever made. Even Mike and the 'bots have a hard time with this one, going so far as to set up a hotline for viewers traumatized by the film.

Needless to say, only MSTies prepared to endure deep hurting should attend this screening. You have been warned.

I was mildly confused about the directions, but that was a momentary blip -- once I got in, I FOUND MY PEOPLE.
    •  It's nice to see a such a deep appreciation for truly one of the worst movies in existence!

Great group, and some amazingly awful films to enjoy. What could be better.
    •  Mike, great job and thanks again for hosting. And just in case you couldn't get enough hobgoblins: http://www.youtub... You're welcome.
    •  Movie was worse than I anticipated (despite the warnings). Shorts before/after the main attraction were great (insight into life/culture in the '50s/'70s).
